Today I met the artists that will collaborate on the mural of Cheif Leschi downtown on the YMCA in Olympia, WA. It was a hot day so as we walked from various locations viewing murals, we made sure to find the side of the street where there was shade. Most of this was provided by the sun being obstructed by buildings, however, there were some lovely trees that also marked our traverse from the downtown core ~ visiting murals by both of the guiding supporting artists for the Leschi Mural ~ “For the Ancestors” created by Kyle Sanchez & family and “Bee Here Now” painted by Christopher Gerber. We walked to the edge of town, where the new YMCA stands, and stopped at its blank, north-facing paneled wall. Here, a group of emerging young artists will create one of the first in what will become a series of murals along that row.
