Arts Walk, Olympia WA, Current Project

This Mural is an ongoing creation, designed & painted by Squaxin artist Andrea Wilbur-Sigo. The design reflects the infinite connections between indigenous culture and the local environment they steward. It highlights the interconnection between all living beings and systems. At the most recent Artswalk, Andrea progressed on the downtown mural alongside friends, family, and other painters. At the next Artswalk, she will complete the painting process by adding welcome figure columns on either side of the mural.

Sea Turtle Mural

Cieba, Puerto Rico

This first mural of 3 is of the Hawksbill turtle, Moonjellies, and bioluminescent plankton, endemic to the waters of Puerto Rico and dependent on the quality of water that flows from land to sea. This mural, created by Christopher Gerber and Amanda Lux of A.W.E., is to celebrate the beauty and value of biodiversity while calling attention to the danger and cost of petroleum plastics and polluted freshwater runoff.

Extinct species are irreplaceable and water is life.

Plastic bags kill sea turtles because they are often indistinguishable from one of the turtle’s main foods- jellyfish. Even if the turtles don’t die immediately from the plastic it stays in their digestion system for life. We as a conscious part of the ecosystem can make different choices to keep plastics out of the Ocean as well as make sure freshwater runoff from civilization is pollutant free.
